Max is responsible for day-to-day risk oversight of the firm’s systematic and macro trading strategies.

He has around two decades’ experience of working with and overseeing the firm’s strategies, having originally been responsible for managing the integration and development of the systematic strategy within the firm’s macro portfolio in 2006.

Max joined the firm in 2004 from JPMorgan where he worked as an interest-rate derivatives analyst. Prior to that, he read Pharmacology at Kings College London and Imperial College London, graduating in 1997.

Umar is responsible for overseeing all non-investment operations at the firm having joined in 2012 after advising the business on the establishment of the joint venture with Brevan Howard in 2010. He also serves as the firm’s General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer.

Umar is admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales and holds the Solicitor-Advocate (All Higher Courts) qualification.

Prior to joining the firm, he began his career in private practice with Clifford Chance, initially in their Finance, Corporate and Regulatory team before later specialising in investment fund formation, advisory and related restructuring and M&A work with Travers Smith. Umar has also worked on secondment at JPMorgan.

Umar read Law at the University of Bristol (receiving his LLB (Honours) in 2000).

Stefanel joined the firm in 2013. He is responsible for overseeing systematic trading research and innovation within the Research and Development team.

He is a George Soros scholar with a Doctorate in Physics from University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg where he researched signatures of quantum chaos in nuclear deformation and metal clusters.

Prior to joining the firm, Stefanel worked for Anglo American where he developed algorithms aimed at predicting seismic events in South African deep level mines and Goldman Sachs as a proprietary trading analyst where he implemented cross-asset systematic trading models for the proprietary trading desk in Australia.

Matthew joined the firm in 2006 and was appointed Chief Technology Officer in 2015. He is responsible for all aspects of the firm’s technology, systems and security.

Matthew began his career in the IT industry immediately after graduating, spending eight years with the global Systems Integration division of British Telecommunications, where he specialised in the design and delivery of large-scale infrastructures to clients in the Government and Financial Services sectors.

Matthew graduated from Cambridge University in 1997 with a degree in Natural Sciences.

David has over 30 years of trading experience, beginning his career in 1986 at Chemical Bank as a market maker in bonds and forward rate agreements. He joined HSBC in 1989, becoming Executive VP and Chief Dealer in the US where he was responsible for all interest rate derivative trading, balance sheet management and proprietary trading in government bonds.

In 1997, David moved to Chase Manhattan as CIO of Chase London Diversified Fund and Head of Proprietary Trading for the European Rates division. He left JP Morgan Chase in 2002 to establish DG Partners, where he oversaw the establishment of the systematic trading program that would ultimately be formalized as the BH-DG Systematic Trading Strategy in 2010.

Irfan joined the firm in 2010, initially working as a developer on Fixed Income Pricing and Risk systems, before holding roles in our post-trade systems team and leading the systems development team. Irfan joined the Research and Development team as a Senior Quantitative Developer in 2015 and is now responsible for overseeing model engineering and post-trade systems.

Prior to joining the firm, Irfan worked at Goldman Sachs in Structured Products Technology and Standard Bank where he completed rotations in the Credit, Risk Technology and Carbon Trading teams.

Irfan graduated from Imperial College with a MEng in Computing in 2008. Irfan also obtained a Masters in Finance from London Business School in 2015 under the firm’s sponsorship.

Davina joined the firm in 2012, originally as a trainee accountant in our finance team before being promoted to Financial Controller and qualifying as an accountant under the firm’s sponsorship.

She became Head of Finance in 2019 and is responsible for the firm’s financial affairs and related regulatory reporting.

Davina graduated from UCL in 2010 with a BSc (Hons) in Physics.

Will joined the firm in 2022 and is responsible for investor partnerships globally. As part of his role, he helps manage the firm’s client relationships globally, overseeing strategic initiatives as well as capital formation relating to our investment solution offering. He previously held similar roles at AQR and Renaissance Asset Managers.

Will graduated in 2013 from Exeter University with a first-class honours degree in Business Economics. He is a CAIA Charterholder and holds the Series 3 FINRA designation.
